Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect at my first chiropractic appointment?
Your first appointment begins with a discussion of your health history, current concerns and goals. A chiropractic assessment will then be performed based on your individual presentation. This may include assessment of movement, joints, muscles, strength, neurological function, posture and other relevant areas. Findings and recommendations will be discussed with you before proceeding with care.

Will I receive treatment during my first appointment?
Treatment may be provided at the initial appointment when clinically appropriate and with your consent. In some circumstances, further assessment, imaging, consultation with another health professional or referral may be recommended before treatment proceeds.

What types of concerns can be assessed at ADAPT?
Chiropractic practice focuses on conditions related to the spine, nervous system and joints. Patients may seek assessment for concerns such as neck or back pain, headaches associated with the neck, muscle and joint complaints, mobility limitations, repetitive strain, and sport- or activity-related injuries. An assessment is used to determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate for your individual circumstances.

What treatments may be included in chiropractic care?
Care is individualized based on your assessment, goals and preferences. Depending on clinical findings, care may include chiropractic adjustment or manipulation, joint mobilization, soft-tissue techniques, stretching, exercise and rehabilitation, and education or self-management strategies. The specific treatment approach will be discussed with you before care is provided.

Do I have to receive a chiropractic adjustment?
No. Your chiropractor will discuss the proposed treatment, its expected benefits, material risks and reasonable alternatives as part of the consent process. You can ask questions and may withdraw consent at any time.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
A physician's referral is generally not required to make an appointment with a chiropractor. However, individual extended health insurance plans may have different requirements for reimbursement. Please check the terms of your insurance plan.

How long are appointments?
New patients should book an Initial Chiropractic Assessment. Follow-up appointments are available in different lengths depending on your needs. Your chiropractor can recommend an appropriate appointment length based on your care plan.

How many appointments will I need?
The number and frequency of appointments varies depending on your individual presentation, goals and response to care. Recommendations are made following assessment and may be modified as your progress is reassessed. No specific treatment outcome or number of visits can be guaranteed.

What should I wear to my appointment?
Comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely is recommended. Athletic clothing can be helpful when movement assessment or exercise rehabilitation is part of your appointment.

Do you offer direct billing to extended health insurance?
Direct billing is available for many extended health insurance plans where supported by the insurer and your individual policy. Coverage and reimbursement vary between plans. Direct billing does not guarantee that an insurer will cover all or part of the service, and patients are responsible for any outstanding balance.

Do you accept MVA or WSIB claims?
At this time, ADAPT Chiropractic & Rehab does not accept claims for treatment through automobile insurance (MVA) or the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).

Can I speak with the chiropractor before booking an initial assessment?
Yes. A complimentary 15-minute consultation is available for prospective patients who would like to discuss whether scheduling a chiropractic assessment may be appropriate. The consultation is not a chiropractic assessment or treatment appointment.

Can I book online?
Yes. Appointments can be scheduled through our secure online booking system. If you are a new patient seeking chiropractic care, please select Initial Chiropractic Assessment for your first appointment.
